Crop Systems

Crop Systems

Celsius and SaferGardens organize crop-health work by crop system. Each system focuses on practical field tools for suppressing pest and disease complexes.

Cocoa Systems

Cocoa protocols are focused on disease suppression and field recovery in farms affected by witches’ broom, black pod, frosty pod, vascular streak dieback, and related disease pressure.

  • Witches’ broom suppression
  • Black pod suppression
  • Frosty pod readiness
  • Vascular streak dieback readiness
  • SaferShield ARREST + CONTROL field logic
  • Low-cost smallholder implementation

Coconut Systems

Coconut protocols are focused on palm decline, pest complexes, and recovery symptoms in coconut production systems.

  • Coconut beetle pressure
  • Red-ring nematode complex
  • Coconut mite and red palm mite pressure
  • Palm decline recovery observation
  • Crown and root-zone treatment concepts

Banana Systems

Banana protocols are focused on disease and pest complexes that reduce production and threaten smallholder banana and plantain systems.

  • Moko disease
  • Panama disease / Fusarium wilt
  • Black Sigatoka
  • Banana borers
  • Nematode complexes
  • MUSA ToolBox field protocols

Systems Under Field Testing

The following Celsius and SaferGardens systems are under field testing or field validation.

  • SaferShield: developed for cocoa disease complexes including witches’ broom, black pod, frosty pod, and vascular streak dieback, with the aim of reducing disease pressure and limiting dependence on repeated phytosanitary removal.
  • STIM27 Plant Stimulant: developed for coconut palm decline complexes, including red-ring nematode, coconut beetle damage, lethal yellowing-type symptoms, root recovery, shoot recovery, nut set, and nut size.
  • STIM31 Vapour Cloud: developed as a coconut beetle and vector-management concept using volatile, naturally occurring repellents.
